Russian State Library (RSL) has designed software for Internet resources cataloguing based Dublin Core Metadata Set. We suggest it for all libraries as a freeware. It includes tools for publishing catalogue in the Internet, usage of any hierarchical classification, web interface for cataloguing,. In the nearest future we plan to develop Z39.50 server for this database.

The Centre was founded in 1998 as a result of two departments merging: the Scientific-Research Department of Automation and the Computer Centre.
The main goal of the Centre is to implement in the RSL integrated automated systems based on the modern information-computer environment. The Centre supports software for the processing of current acquisitions and electronic catalogue, local databases for users. It also develops computer technologies and information-linguistic software AIBC RSL.
In the area of information technologies development the Centre workes in close international co-operation with European community. By the agreement with European Committee in the frames of TACIS project "Integrated Automated System for the Russian State Library" the new software ALEPH-500 (OPAC module) was purchased for the conversion of the current Library's electronic catalogue. Cataloguing module will be purchased and installed in the nearest future.
The electronic catalogue of domestic and foreign books, maps, abstracts and dissertations acquired by the RSL (600,000 bibliographic records) is represented in the Internet. The Centre supports the web-site of the Library (www.rsl.ru). Today in the frames of the Centre the future electronic library is starting to be build. The Centre provides research and methodological help to libraries on information technologies.
