An old Siberian village Srostki is situated between Chuisk road and beautiful river Katun. Vasily Makarovich Shukshin was born and lived here.

Shukshin’s native land is vast and wonderful and its power is seen in its people. You can’t understand Shukshin’s charm without turning back to his history and roots that gave him knowledge and experience.

Shukshin’s “small motherland” is the source of his talent as writer, film director and actor. The experience and wisdom of his countrymen, love for his motherland lived in his soul till the end. “Motherland…Why is there a thought in my heart that I’ll stay there forever? When? It’s not like my life…Why then? Maybe because it’s always in my heart and it always will. God bless you, my motherland! Be happy and so will I.”

We propose to your attention the results of the work on creation the Internet site of All-Russian V.M. Shukshin State Memorial. This work was begun in 1997 by Biysk Technological Institute (BTI) and the memorial. This resulted in Web-page placed at the institute WWW-server.

Theme of Shukshin and Altai is very popular both in Russia as abroad. And not only among museum workers and researchers but different people.

The named work is to activate the research and popularisation of cultural values referring to V.M. Shukshin and his motherland – Srostki village- history. There are following departments within the framework of the electronic museum:

*V.M. Shukshin’s biography and creativity milestones;

*memorial sightseeing;

*museum expositions;

*electronic catalogue of funds;

*V.M. Shukshin’s bibliography;

*institutions and organisations studying V.M. Shukshin’s life and creativity;

*news and problems of museum life;

*electronic versions of some of Shukshin’s works;

*Shukshin’s Birthday Celebrations info.

The map of Srostki village is in the base of the work. All village territory is the memorial. You can follow the standard (entrance -> House where V.M. Shukshin was born -> “Katun” cinema -> Ancient cemetery - > Srostki V.M. Shukshin secondary school - > Ancient Srostki school - > Srostki V.M. Shukshin secondary school… ) or by your choice.

The electronic catalogue of funds and Shukshin’s Birthday Celebrations info deserve especially great attention. The electronic catalogue is being created within the framework of an information system which is divided: local subsystem at the museum which is connected by Biysk RunNet node with the remote system at the servers of the Biysk Technological Institute.

Catalogue structure. At the museum: database containing card file of fund in electronic funds and information search system. WWW-server: database supported by SQL-oriented tools of databases control system and containing the brief copy of electronic card file of fund; search system; user HTML-based interface; program device which automatically places the information from the museum (received by email) in the database.

Data structure . The electronic card file of funds is created on the basis of a paper card file, thus the structure of an electronic card coincides with structure of a paper card. All database is divided on sub-bases, depending on the type of a material kept in fund (subjects of a life, photo etc.).

Functional abilities. The information search system provides:

- Input of cards into DB on the basis of the convenient user interface, control of input;

- Removal of cards, editing of the information in cards;

- Seal of cards with the purpose of accommodation them in a paper card file;

- Search of cards under the basic properties;

- Contextual search of the information in DB and in separate sub-bases;

- Preparation and distribution of the quantitative characteristics: amount of cards in DB, amount of cards in sub-base, amount of cards meeting the requirements of search;

- Transfer of cards by email to the museum WWW-server.

The retrieval system of the WWW-server provides contextual search of the information in the server database.

Realisation.

For realisation of information retrieval system in the Internet Oracle8i is used for storing data and Oracle Application Server 4 - for providing the access by http protocol. There are two blocks:

1. User block (free access);

2. Administration block (it is necessary to know name and password);

User block:

The electronic catalogue of museum funds is accessible from any computer connected to the global computer network - the Internet. All you need is a browser and the address of an Internet page. You can use any browser to work with the catalogue, for example MSIE or NC.

The Internet address of the catalogue is - http: // db.biysk.secna.ru/ssm/base/catalog.leve l1

The access to the catalogue materials is possible in two modes.

First – catalogue mode. It is intended first of all for those who is interested in museum exhibits, but does not know exactly what it contains and has the purpose to see the available materials. All exhibits are divided by thematic sections and sub-sections. You can choose the section (sub-section) you are interested in.

You can get more details concerning exhibit by choosing it in the received list. The following data can be entered for each of exhibits:

· Inventory number

· ÊÏ N

· Date of receipt

· Document of receipt

· Name, purpose(assignment)

· Material, engineering

· Size, weight, test for precious metals

· Description (contents)

· Dating

· Author (foreman, school, country, manufacturer, publisher, ethnic group)

· Texts, remarks, inscriptions, stamps, marks etc.

· Marks, brand, labels, serial numbers

· Place and date of manufacture (creation, manufacturing of stamping, shooting, find, edition and so on).

· Safety

· Restoration and preservation

· Publication and preservation

· Museum importance

Second - mode of search. To proceed to mode of search, it is enough to choose by "mouse" the word "Search" in the top left corner. The window, in which it will be offered to enter a line for search, will appear.

For example, we should find all records, where there is the word "srostki". To do that, we enter the word "srostki" and press the button "Search". The list of objects of base, where there was the word "srostki", will appear. If you are interested in pictures of Srostki village, then in the inquiry line it is necessary to enter two words: "srostki" and "picture" and to put between them a condition of search: "AND". If you are interested in all pictures and figures contained in base, then in the search line two words are entered: "picture" and "figure" and a condition of search: "OR" is put between them.

The second block (administration) is needed for editing, removal, addition of data.

Two modes of an administrator work are offered:

1. Using universal work environment - WWW (World Wide Web).

With the help of standard Internet tools (Netscape Navigator, Internet Explorer or other browser) it is possible to receive complete access to database by entering name and password

In the form of authorisation on the museum site.

2. The local part of information retrieval system used in a museum is realised with the application of visual language Delphi 4.

Nowadays the following perspective directions in the given area exist: updating of electronic card file of funds, inclusion of the pictures of museum exhibits in structure of a card file, giving the greater presentation and informativity to the materials presented in the electronic museum, creation of the electronic versions of the collections published in the memorial.
